{"id":185,"date":"2012-05-10T21:11:18","date_gmt":"2012-05-10T21:11:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mikebirdblog.wordpress.com\/?p=1"},"modified":"2024-04-16T14:54:41","modified_gmt":"2024-04-16T13:54:41","slug":"private-jobs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mikebird.me\/?p=185","title":{"rendered":"Private sector &#8211; not enough jobs!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On 9<sup>th<\/sup> May 2012 I went to an economic debate arranged by \u201cInsider Wales\u201d, who provide news on business in Wales.<\/p>\n<p>I asked, \u201cDo you think the private sector [<em>in North Wales<\/em>] can provide enough jobs to make up for the cuts in public sector empl;oyment?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Panel responses were illuminating.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Institute of Directors North Wales Chair: \u201cOf course not! And why would you want them anyway? They were from the public sector, would you really want people like that in your organisation?\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Deeside Enterprise Zone Interim Board Chair: \u201cNo, that was just wishful thinking, it was never really possible.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Watkin Jones Group Managing Director: \u201cNo. In the private sector we believe we can do the work with fewer people, so of course not.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>CBI Noth Wales Chair: \u201cNo, but There Is No Alternative [<em>remember Thatcher&#8217;s TINA mantra?<\/em>].
